I just don't know if a website is going to be useful or supported. Does anyone have an opinion What should it contain Ideas or suggestions I realize that reliable information is lacking on these knives, even from Gerber. I have been contemplating starting a website on the MK1.
#GERBER MK1 HISTORY SERIAL NUMBERS#
I have seen (1984) black blade Gerber MK I's with serial numbers from P52xxS to S49xxS. Thanks to everyone that has replied here or sent me a PM. The handle is whats referred to as Black Armorhide. 1989 was the First year of the Cutlery Shoppe knives.Įditors note: after a little research, here are my findings on getting rough dates from serial numbers. The forth tell is the letter 'G' in the Gerber name has the normal horizontal portion pointing back to the inside of the letter. There is an "S" in the serial numbers of the stainless models. They are true Gerber products but the values should be adjusted accordingly as they were not made in the same years as knives without the CS's or XX's in the serial numbers. Knives that have an "XX" in the serial number or a "CS" are reproduction and commemorative knives. In 1984 a blackened blade variety was offered in the Mark I (Model# 5604). The knife was roughly 9” in overall length Collecting early m3 knives, m6 scabbards, 1st & 2nd year Gerber Mk2s, 2nd pattern FS knives, Type 98 Japanese swords, & Type 3 Japanese swords. The Gerber Mark I was in production from 1976 to 1997.ġ976 – 1981 blade composition was comprised of Special Alloy (L6) Tool Steelġ981 – 1997 blade composition was comprised of High Carbon Surgical Stainless Steel New Listing GERBER USA PRINCIPLE SCANDINAVIAN GRIND 420HC TACTICAL HUNTING KNIFE SET KNIVES. Accurate records on MK I serial numbers relating to dates were never kept (like they were with the MK II), but here is some information that will help with an aproximate date for any Gerber MK I knife.
